Tammy Shivers
Professional Rider, Coach, and Licensed Professional Counselor
Tammy Shivers embarked on her equestrian journey at the age of 7, starting at what was once the Grosse Pointe Hunt Club, where she focused on the Hunter/Jumper discipline. Over time, her passion for horses led her to pursue a career as a professional rider, trainer, and coach. After starting her family, Tammy transitioned into a full-time coaching role, where she developed a deep understanding of the emotional challenges riders face—particularly fear and anxiety in the show ring. This realization inspired her to further her education, earning a Master's in Counseling and becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), enabling her to offer a unique combination of mental and physical support to riders through her private practice.
Over the last 15 years, Tammy’s focus has shifted toward Dressage and Rider Biomechanics, though her love for teaching Hunter/Jumper remains strong. As an accredited coach with Mary Wanless’s "Ride With Your Mind" program—one of only 12 in the United States—Tammy has been trained to bridge the gap between traditional riding skills and the modern understanding of how and why certain techniques work. RWYM offers riders a deeper insight into not just what to do, but the underlying strategies that guide successful performance.
Tammy continues to seek growth and improvement, learning from respected professionals such as Mary Wanless, David de Wispelaere, and Celeste Lazarus. She is constantly adding new tools to her repertoire, allowing her to approach each horse and rider’s needs with a holistic mindset. Whether through groundwork, long-lining, Magnawave therapy (as a certified practitioner), bodywork, or biomechanical analysis for both horse and rider, Tammy is dedicated to helping horses move more freely and comfortably while improving the skills of the riders who work with them.
